Week 3 Update

Time for an overdue Week 3 wrap-up... At the end of Week 2 we said that we'd be in San Francisco until Tuesday / Wednesday / whenever the car is ready. Well, it turns out the last category was and still is what we fell into. It's now halfway through Week 4 and we're still waiting for our car to be fixed. So, on one hand we've had a pretty big delay in our itinerary. But in another way, we found that San Francisco is probably the best place we could have been stranded and it's been a great experience nonetheless. If anyone is going to San Francisco in the future, we'd definitely recommend buying the City Pass, which is a booklet of tickets to San Francisco's many attractions.
We spent most of our third week just trying to visit all of the places we had tickets to. As you can see from the prior posts, we first went to Fisherman's Wharf and the SF Aquarium. The Aquarium was pretty small, but its got some cool exhibits and is worth a short visit. Fisherman's Wharf / Pier 39 is a nice touristy place to go. They have some good restaurants, a funny magician, interesting shops, etc. Next we went to the California Academy of Sciences, which we recommend you do not visit on a Saturday afternoon in the summer. Despite the large crowds, it was one of a state-of-the-art science museum with a bunch of cool exhibits (a 3-story rainforest, huge aquarium, planetarium, and a living roof... which was awesome). Overall, though, I thought the place was a little better on presentation than actual exhibits.
Next we went to the Exploratorium, where I wish we could have spent a few days straight. It was a huge building full of incredible, interactive exhibits ranging from physics to cognitive pscyhology. This should be the first stop for anybody visiting SF, especially families. The only problem is the army of kids who start messing with the exhibits while you're in the middle of doing something. On Monday, we got tickets to one of the most famous attractions in San Francisco, Alcatraz. It did not disappoint. We took the ferry to the island and went on the audio tour of the prison. We also listened to an interesting presentation on Al Capone.

I must interupt this post for now b/c we just found out our cars ready!! I'll finish when we get to Boulder, but we should briefly say that we are greatful to Ashley's Aunt Kathy, Uncle Randy, and cousin Libby for letting us stay with them over the past weekend. We had a great time.

Now, we're going to book it through Vegas, Grand Canyon, Four Corners, and Arches National Park and try to get to Kara's by Thursday. We'll post again then...
